MEMBER ACCESS

Oswald’s, Mayfair

Oswald’s is a deeply discreet private members’ club on Albemarle Street in Mayfair – a townhouse whose red awnings give almost nothing away from the pavement. Inside, it’s conceived first and foremost as a home for serious wine lovers: a richly decorated, old-world dining club where the cellar is as important as the dining room, and members can treat it as their London “wine house” as much as their social base.

The interiors are opulent but comfortable: mirrored panelling inspired by grand European salons, Murano chandeliers, country-house fireplaces and a series of intimate rooms spread over several floors. Above the main restaurant you’ll find additional dining spaces including La Loma, a more colourful, South American-leaning room, along with a reworked terrace that functions as a dedicated cigar area.

What to expect

Oswald’s runs as a classic dining club rather than a scene-led “party” venue. The main restaurant leans Mediterranean, with plenty of fish and grill dishes, while La Loma upstairs offers a different, Latin-influenced menu – giving members options for everything from a quiet mid-week dinner to a more celebratory evening.

The culture is built around discretion, polished service and serious wine. Members can cellar a selection of their own bottles on site, pull them for dinner without corkage, or access a list of big-name labels priced more gently than in many comparable rooms. Phones and social media are strongly discouraged, dress is smart, and the overall feel is of a calm, clubby dining room rather than a loud nightclub – albeit one with a very high-profile, international crowd.
